"It requires a bomb on American soil to awaken our citizens"

The title of this article which was a comment in an e-mail from Ragnar, a long-time reader, I'm afraid is true. We Americans are incredibly fortunate and unbelievably gullible. We have lived remarkably sheltered lives and most Americans alive today have never experienced or witnessed any real cruelty, much less actual torture. We have people, some of them in politics and the media, who actually believe that embarrassing men who have been arrested for terrorist acts is a form of "torture!"

Then, we have those such as Rep. John Conyers, Democrat from Michigan, trying to convince the American people and the world in general that the only really big problem and war criminal we have in the world that we need to get rid of is in none other than our own president - George W. Bush. They want to impeach him for liberating Iraq from a murderous butcher named Saddam Hussein. Of course, Conyers and his friends don't exactly phrase it that way. Their latest ploy is what they call the "Downing Street Memo" which is touted as a "secret" memo of a meeting of British government officials (no Americans) that Conyers claims "proves" President Bush "planned" to attack Iraq without cause. Only - there is not one single solitary quote in the memo of ANY comment by even the British that were supposed to be at the meeting and it doesn't even PRETEND to quote anything said by President Bush.

And, Conyers, of course, has a long history of using his position in Congress to defend people the FBI believed were tied to terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda. His effort for the past two years to whip up support to impeach President Bush is based largely on the President's determination to put an end to the al-Qaeda network.

What this all seems to me to indicate is that we are watching the same kind of well planned disinformation campaign in the USA today that took place in the break-up of Yugoslavia when the media and President Clinton either through ignorance or deliberate action simply did not tell the American people the truth about what was going on. Clinton unilaterally raised the UN arms boycott in order allow Bosnian Muslims to receive weapons from Iran and Osama bin Laden.

According to the last census taken in Yugoslavia before it disintegrated in the 1990s the town of Srebrenica in Bosnia-Herzegovina had a population of 37,211 people. The population figures were 72.9% (27,126) Muslim, 25.2% (9,377) Serbs, .1% (37) Croatian and the rest were "others." Gorazde, that also had a population of 37,505 in 1991, is a few miles southwest of Srebrenica. It, like Srebrenica, was over 70% Muslim and 26% Serb. Most Americans have heard about Srebrenica, where, we have been told, the Serbs committed "genocide" against the Muslims, killing 8000 of them. That would have been about 25% of the 1991 population of Muslims. Very few Americans have ever heard of Gorazde, however. They have heard a LOT about the "siege of Srebrenica" which took place in July 1995 when, according to the Muslims and reports on BBC:

"Survivors from Srebrenica fled to Muslim-held territory.

"They were under the protection of about 600 lightly armed Dutch infantry forces. Fuel was running out and no fresh food had been brought into the enclave since May. Serb forces began shelling Srebrenica. Bosnian Muslim fighters in the town asked for the return of weapons they had surrendered to the peacekeepers but their request was refused."

This is a direct contradiction of an e-mail sent to me by Almir Radic, a Bosnian Muslim who claims to have been a UN Employee in Srebrenica before and during the "siege." So, what does the town of Gorazde have to do with this story? An Associated Press report filed September 12, 1992 began:

"Charred human skeletons, decomposing corpses and burned-out cars are the grim remnants of a Muslim assault on a column of Serb refugees fleeing war-ravaged Gorazde." The brief article described the situation: "Muslims and Croats have also come under increasing international criticism for crimes and human rights abuses, including "ethnic cleansing" of territories under their control. "Ethnic cleansing" is the term used to describe the expulsion of people to create ethnically homogeneous areas.

"After the Serb forces left their positions on the hills above Gorazde, Muslim residents, 70 percent of the town's prewar population of 40,000, looted and torched the houses of fleeing Serbs, witnesses said.

"Almost every building, including Serb Orthodox churches, has been torched in the Serb quarter on the southeastern bank of the Drina River that divides Gorazde, a trading center about 35 miles southeast of the Bosnian capital Sarajevo.

"The move to loosen the siege on Gorazde coincided with an international London peace conference in which all warring groups participated. The decision by Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic angered local Serb warlords - and those who had to flee.

"Muslims have abused our peace gesture by launching attacks on innocent civilians. We may have to counterattack to regain the territory," Dusan Kornjaca, the commander of Serb forces, said in an interview."

And who was the Serb who made the peace gesture that led to the Muslims slaughtering Serbs in Gorazde? None other than the Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic who, according to the United Nations, has killed 7,000 or 8,000 Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica during July 1995 as "part of a campaign to terrorize and demoralize the Bosnian Muslim and Bosnian Croat population."

Yet according to Almir Ramic, the UN Bosnian Muslim who claims he was an eye witness in Srebrenica at the time, the United Nations armed the Muslims who outnumbered the Serbs 3 to 1, and the Serbs somehow managed to kill 8000 of them? I'm not sure, if I were a Bosnian Muslim male, I would want to admit that, even if it happened.

A lot of people died in the Bosnian civil war. According to 1995 figures published by the Stockholm Peace Research Center, 10,000 Serb soldiers died, (plus an uncounted number of civilians) out of a Serb population of 1.4 million in Bosnia. That compares with 1,700 American soldiers dying in the Iraq war out of a population of 293 million.

Perhaps, if you think that appeasing terrorists will bring peace you need to go talk to a Serb – perhaps the so-called architect of the Srebrenica “genocide” against Muslims – Radovan Karadzic.
